The Actual Light Output of your Work Lamp
Some LED work lamp manufacturers typically specify a light output without factoring in the impact of temperature, optical losses or other real world effects on light output performance.

This however, does not correspond to the actual effective light output of the work lamp. When these light values are cited, they are often unrealistically high. Such ratings are referred to as “calculated lumen” (clm) or “cold lumen”.

The lumen ratings of all HELLA work lamps are always based on values obtained from measuring actual lamps. The lumen values correspond to the light that is actually emitted from the work lamp. HELLA LED work lamps emit their full output in ambient temperatures of up to 50°C.

How can you compare the Illumination of different work lamps?
Work lamps can be compared by using an informative isolux lighting diagram. These diagrams display the projected light pattern on a surface in the form of isolux lines (lines of equal light intensity). To compare isolux diagrams, various criteria such as installation height, inclination angle and lux scale must be taken into account.

An objective comparison is inaccurate if the criteria differ from one another. Comparing diagrams with different colour scales can be easily misinterpreted.

What is the difference between the different types of illumination?

Long Range
Narrow beam range designed to illuminate distant objects between 40m - 150m (depending on installation height and inclination angle).

Close Range
Spread beam designed to illuminate an area near the vehicle, range approx. 5m to 40m (depending on installation height and inclination angle).

Flood
Ultra wide spread beam designed to illuminate a large area adjacent to the vehicle, range up to 10m (depending on installation height and inclination angle).

One Lux represents the intensity of the light of a full moon (under clear atmospheric conditions) or just sufficient light by which to read a newspaper.
